About The Books

To The Heart Of Things is a collection of poetry in which the author seeks to render the tapestry that explores the thoughts and ruminations on the many facets and moods of love, romance, friendship, personal identity and the reality of death. The author frames her poetic journal with descriptions of settings, individuals, and her own inner thoughts and emotions which only adds to the richness of the collection.

In 'I want to Believe,' the loss of a relationship is compared to a musician playing a Bass Guitar:

. . . To feel my strap across your neck.
My back pressed firmly against your chest.
To feel your arms around me, holding me.
Your fingers pulling, plucking, gently stroking my strings. . .

And in . . .? . . .? . . .?, she offers her observation on the ending of a relationship and the partner's complex behavior:

I wasn't listening. Or maybe I was listening too hard. I didn't realize that maybe, just maybe you were saying more by your silence. . .
You exited my life just as mysteriously as you entered it. . . All I know is that I wasn't ready for it to end.

That is just a couple of the forty riveting, heart wrenching, "make you kind of think" poems you'll find inside
To The Heart Of Things.

Because of Love

Kyle LeCole Mackey has finally gotten his life back on track. He'd gotten the promotion he wanted on his job as a police sergeant, assigned to the Robbery Division. He’d moved into his first home, and had just met Ms. Lena Washington, the new Office Administrator at his district. After the rejection of his marriage proposal to Simone Banister three years ago, he finally felt himself getting on with his life. That was until Simone called him in a state of urgency, demanding to see him with news that would change his life forever.

Tony "Tone" Patterson was Kyle's best friend with issues of his own.  After the death of his wife, Cheryll, he found himself a single father, raising his now, five year old daughter, alone. That was a struggle, but it wasn't his struggle. His came from the investigation he was under by the police department.  An investigation that would either make or break a friendship that has endured even the worst of times.

Simone Nicole Banister had broken the hearts of many  men in her life, but she knew that she had hurt Kyle the most. She knew that while other men confessed to love her, Kyle did. That's why she knew he would be the only one she could call on now.  The only one she could share her pain and her fears with.  The only one who, through his pain, would still look for the good in her and be there for her, now, when she needed someone the most.  Her only prayer was it wasn't too late.

Through these situations, Kyle LeCole Mackey learns first hand, life does not always deal you a winning hand.  And when that happens, you have to learn to depend on that small inner voice and pray that you’ve made the right decisions.  Regardless of the cost.
